Episode 93: RIP Billy Hardwick

The PGA website posted the sad news that Hall of Fame bowler Billy Hardwick died November 16, 2013 of an apparent heart attack. I was able to meet him very briefly this year when I was in Tennessee to see his son Chris Hardwick perform. I feel like I have gotten to know him though the the stories Chis has told on the Nerdist Podcast. He clearly loved his family. He had some amazing achievements in the world of bowling. The world is poorer for loosing such a talented and passionate human being.

Let us take the time to celebrate the life of Billy Hardwick. Here is his appearance on the Nerdist podcast. He was delightful. It is a real gift to the world that Chris Hardwick recorded this intimately personal podcast with his Dad. http://www.nerdist.com/2012/06/nerdist-podcast-billy-hardwick/

This is a recent Nerdist podcast where Chris Hardwick talks about how his Mom and Dad started to talk to each other for the first time since the 1980's. It's really bitter sweet given the current news. It is comforting to know that before his death he was able to mend his relationship with Chris' Mom. http://www.nerdist.com/2013/10/nerdist-podcast-lucky-pen/

Billy Hardwick's Miller High Life Beer comercial. "My favorite tidbit about this is by far that fact that he was supposed to have lines and then take a swig, but quickly got too hammered after several takes. http://youtu.be/h_pDPhEk440

There is not much I can say that will make things easier for Chris. Just send him lots of hugs.

Singing with Sam and Dave

Lyrics to Hold On, I'm Coming:

Hold On, I'm Coming

Don't you ever, be sad
Lean on me, hen times get bad
When the day come, and you know your down
In a river of trouble, your bout to drown

Hold on, cause I'm coming
Hold on, I'm coming

I'm on my way, your lover where
If your cold, I will be your cover
Never have to worry, because I am here
You dont need to suffer, cause I am near

Say
Hold on cause I'm coming
Hold on cause I'm coming
Hold on, cause I'm coming
Hold on, I'm coming

Lemme hear ya'll
You talk to me
For satisfaction, oh, hold on
Call my name, oh, call my name yeah for quick reaction
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Oh don't you ever,
oh don't you ever, be sad,
I want you to lean on me, when times get bad,
When the day comes, and I know you been around,
In a river o trouble, you you you you about to drown

Hold on I'm coming
Hold on cause I'm coming
Hold on cause I'm coming
Hold on I'm coming
(just hold on baby)
Hold on, I'm coming (here i come)
Hold on, I'm coming (take my hand)
Hold on, (dont you ever) I'm coming (here I come)

Ep. 3 Singing with Journey

Show Notes:
This week I am singing with Journey.  The URI Ram Band is playing a couple of their songs so I felt this would be a perfect time to never stop believing.  So Don't Stop Believing!

Lyrics:

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere

Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

Ep. 2 Singing with Sara Watkins

Singing with from 10/11/2013 (I forgot to post it).

  • This song will always remind me of my many travels to see various Nerdist and Chris Hardwick events.  It's also a really fun song to sing.  Sara Watkins was on both the Nerdist and You Made It Weird.
  • Nerdist #263: http://www.nerdist.com/2012/09/nerdist-podcast-sara-watkins/
  • You Made It Weird #162: http://www.nerdist.com/2013/06/you-made-it-weird-162-sara-watkins/

This week's song is Sara Watkin's You and MeLyrics:

I remember the night
I remember the sound I remember the light When the moon came 'round
The night flowers bloomed The air so sweet
I remember you I remember me
Central Valley sunshine
Run out of town Make your head all funny
So you stick around
Dusty roads Make dirty feet
I remember you I remember me
I remember the night I remember the sound
I remember the light
When the moon came 'round
The night flowers bloomed
The air so sweet I remember you
I remember me
Wish I knew you now
Like I knew you then
For hours I just sit at your feet And listen
When I want To feel free
I remember you I remember me
I remember the night I remember the sound
I remember the light
When the moon came 'round
The night flowers bloomed
The air so sweet I remember you I remember me
Found myself at your place
When I was out walking I could hear your piano
And I swear I could hear you sing
And the joy we shared as we tarry there
I remember you I remember me
I remember the night I remember the sound
I remember the light
When the moon came 'round
The night flowers bloomed
The air so sweet
I remember you I remember me
I remember you I remember me
I remember you

Singing in Cars ep 1.

Lyrics:

I've been sitting here thinking about gravity,Around the universe reaching out and grabbing me,
It's like everything's pulling me back to you.
I've been wondering if it's unreality,
or if somebody up there is glad at me,
it's like everything's pulling me back to you.
I don't need to see it, oh no,
I just got to believe it, you know,
And I know you can believe it too,
Cause it's true.
I've been staring at the night sky wondering,
What's really keepin' me under it,
It's like everything's pulling me back to you
(uhmmm hummm)
(bah bah, bah bah bah, bah bah, bah bah bah bah bah, bah bah bah bah)
I don't need to see it, oh no,
I just got to believe it, you know,
And I know you can believe it too,

Cause it's true.

I could just my eyes and deny you,
and not see skies of blue,
but you are everywhere.
But thinking about gravity,
reaching out and grabbing me,
and pulling me back to you.

Show Notes:

  • From last week: The essence of last week's pod is the following: Give yourself a break, you are on a path of self-improvement. This path is full of hills and valleys. There are many bumps in the road so just keep going.
  • Characterize: Write three ridiculous "if-then" scenarios to strengthen decisions you've made.
  • Engineering Luck
  • Blind luck vs. Circumstantial Luck
  • Blind Luck is answering your front door to find a talking emu who brings you fortune and fame winning the lotto, having an event you didn't want to go to canceled due to bad weather
  • Circumstantial luck
  • YOU MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK
  • Characterize Write something that happened to you recently. Write one way it could be considered bad luck and one way it could be considered good luck, just to demonstrate how perception affects value. Write five "lucky" things that happened o you, then determine if they were blind luck or circumstantial luck.

Episode 56: Petrichor

Summary:

  • The New Fords Fusions are designed like a Jaguar. I love my new little recording studio.
  • Quemment of the week: How much would you spend to eat dinner with a person of your choice? Who would it be? (My answer may SHOCK)
  • Philosophical issue of the week: Love what you love--unappologically! Be respectful of things you hate. When you hate things make sure you do so in a respectful way. Just saying you hate X isn't good enough. Remember, what you hate maybe something someone loves.
  • Please rate me on iTunes! http://itunes.dihard.info
